Award for excellence in labour reporting

The Canadian Media Guild is inviting freelancers who’ve written about labour issues over the past year to enter their work to be considered for a $1000 award.

The CWA Canada/CAJ Award for Excellence in Labour Reporting is now in its second year. It’s offered by the Canadian Media Guild along with its parent union, CWA Canada, and the Canadian Association of Journalists. Any single piece of labour-related reporting that was published or broadcast in Canada in 2012 is eligible, and freelance journalism is welcome.

Keith Maskell, staff representative for the CMG, says the award is an area where “staffers and freelancers compete on a completely equal footing.”

The deadline for entries is January 31st, 2013 and winners will be announced at the 2013 CAJ conference in May. Entries in either official language will be accepted and an award may be given for reporting in both French and English if judges decide they’re warranted.
