CWG gets its writers on the Ontario design community’s radar

The Canadian Writers Group has signed on as the official Content Sponsor for the Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario.

It’s a unique opportunity for the literary agency, says CWG’s Derek Finkle. “Sponsoring an organization like this is a way of spreading the word about what we do, in an effective and targeted way.”

CWG will produce content  for the DesignThinkers 2011 conference taking place November in Toronto, as well as for RGD’s professional development and training activities throughout the year.

RGD, a non-profit organization, represents approximately 2,800 designers and firms in Ontario. “It’s a natural group for us to reach out to,” says Finkle. “It’s a way of promoting the agency to the graphic design community of Ontario and making them more aware of the services that we offer.”

Finkle, who founded CWG in 2009, recognized an opportunity for the agency to work with design firms, which are increasingly producing websites and other content that is editorial in nature. But they don’t always have in-house writers.

“It’s a pretty commom situation for design firms to have someone who is a designated resource person, who goes out and tries to find the right talent to help with any given project,” says Finkle. “We’ve learned how to make connections with those people over the past couple years.”

And for CWG, this content sponsorship will make those connections even stronger, by putting the agency’s writers on the radar of designers, or even introducing them face-to-face, which will happen at the DesignThinkers conference this year. CWG will have a presence at the conference and take part in panel discussions to talk about what design companies are looking for from writers and how the relationship between designers and writers works.

In addition to their work for a wide variety of prominent journalistic publications, CWG’s writers have produced content for businesses in the fields of real estate development, fashion design, education, insurance, advertising, as well as design — including work for such firms as Oxygen, Hahn Smith, and Parcel.
