NDP petition calls for Urban Worker Strategy

The NDP has launched a petition calling for the implementation of a “pan-Canadian Urban Worker Strategy” to better support the growing number of Canadians who suffer under precarious working conditions.

The petition, titled “Urban workers deserve bettersingles out unpaid internships as one of the main problems facing urban workers today. It also says the self-employed, part-time workers and those under short-term contracts are being “left behind” with no access to benefits.

These urban workers, says the petition, receive little protection and have no job security. The NDP is calling on the government to strengthen and enforce labour laws and explore strategies for increasing the range of benefits offered to those in precarious work situations.
